You were not only a training partner and world champion, but also a friend,” Halmich wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the two boxers together on the red carpet. “43 years old – far too young to go. I don’t understand it. What sad news. RIP Alesia,” were Halmich’s moving words.

Initially an amateur boxer, she won the title of International German Champion in 2003. She then received an offer from the Hamburg boxing stable Universum Boxpromotion and worked as a professional boxer from then on.

Under her fighting name “The Tigress”, she won the GBU world title in February 2006 and the important WIBF world title in March 2008, which Halmich had also held from 1995 to 2007.
