It has already been reported that the BBL finals with the participation of ten teams in the “Audi Dome” arena in Munich will start on June 6, with the finals scheduled for June 26 and 28.
The motion tracking device was developed by the company “Kinexon”. This technology has previously been used in training by several BBL and National Basketball Association (NBA) units.
The planned tracking of players raises privacy concerns, as basketball players have not been contacted before making this decision. Most basketball players found out about the news on Thursday when they arrived in Munich.
“It’s voluntary. It’s an option. That’s how we’ll be able to keep in touch with the players. If one basketball player gets a virus, the whole team is in danger. That’s why the tournament should be stopped again,” Holz said.
Munich Bayern general manager Marko Peschic explained that basketball players will not have to use the device in his club, as training sessions will also be recorded.
A message sent by the league to all clubs tells that only doctors will be able to view the data stored on the device. They will only be allowed this approach if new cases of coronavirus are detected.
It is expected that the movement of players will be tracked only in hotels, without performing these activities outside them. If the basketball player uses the specific device in the hotel, it will not be necessary to use a face mask.
The continuation of the BBL season is expected today at 5.30 pm Latvian time, with Krailsheim’s “Hakro Merlins” and “BG Goettingen” units going to the square, followed by the Munich “Bayern” and Ulm “ratiopharm” battles.
The group tournament phase will last until June 15. The quarter-finals of the two games will take place from 17 to 20 June, the semi-finals from 21 to 24 June and the finals on 26 and 28 June.
The current champions of Munich “Bayern”, Ludwigsburg “Riesen”, Krailsheim “Hakro Merlins”, Berlin “Alba”, Oldenburg “EWE Baskets”, Fehta “Rasta”, Bamberg “Brose”, “BG Goettingen”, Ulm “ratioph will take part in the Munich tournament. and Frankfurt’s Fraport Skyliners.
The teams are divided into five groups of two, following the quarterfinals. In the playoff series, the winner will be the team in the sum of two games.
In developing the hygiene concept, BBL followed the football concept of quarantining all players in the hotel throughout the tournament.
