The German authorities have found a way to extend the isolation of Russian sports.
The German government circumvented the recommendations of the IOC on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions, finding a way to prevent Russians from participating in the European Youth Rowing Championships, which will be held in Krefeld, Germany, from August 25 to 27. The German authorities refused to issue a visa to representatives of the Russian Federation.

He claims that all the applications of athletes from the Russian team were allegedly agreed upon by the organizers of the European championship, but the German authorities did not issue visas to the Russians.
Now, instead of such a prestigious tournament as the European Championship, Russian athletes will go to the open championship of the Belarusian Championship among youth under 23 years old.
In the context of the isolation of Russian and Belarusian sports due to the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, competitions between Russian and Belarusian athletes, including in team sports, began to be held regularly. Thus, in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus they are trying to create the appearance of the participation of their athletes in “international tournaments”.
Returning to the topic of rowing, it is worth adding that the Russian team will not perform at the World Youth Championship either, as it refused to sign a declaration condemning the Russian war against Ukraine.
Recall that in May, the German Interior Ministry stated that militant Russia should not use sporting events as a platform for its propaganda and suggested that the government not issue visas to Russian athletes so that they could not take part in competitions on German territory.
Earlier, the German Athletes’ Association called the complete removal of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international tournaments the only right decision and criticized the calls of the IOC to return Russians and Belarusians to big-time sports under a neutral flag.
