Berlin: German archbishop has ordered an investigation into reports that priests are using church computers to view pornography. Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, the presiding priest of Cologne, one of Germany’s leading Catholic archdiocese, came out publicly against the bad character of the priests. The international news agency ‘Associated Press’ reported that the archbishop responded that the action of the priests was disappointing.
Local media ‘Kellner Staat-Anseiger’ previously reported that priests were viewing pornographic images on the computers of the Catholic Archdiocese of Cologne. According to the report, porn sites were searched on computers more than a thousand times. Senior priests are also among them. The archbishop issued the press release after the newspaper’s investigative report.
Confirming the report, the cardinal said the actions of the priests were disappointing. Firewalls are in place to prevent searches for violence, porn and drugs from the archdiocese’s computers. The Cardinal informed that an investigation has been ordered in the report.
“It is disappointing to know that employees are browsing porn sites on computers provided by the archdiocese for work. Some have no problem using PON. But I agree with Pope Francis, who condemns pornography and warns of its dangers. They harm human pride.” Cardinal Rainer Maria pointed out in a news release.
