The German airport trade association ADV expects that around 1,100 flights will be delayed or canceled on Thursday. The cause is the strikes by security personnel at eleven major airports in Germany. An estimated 200,000 travelers are affected.

For example, the airports of Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart have canceled all departing flights. There are also strikes in Frankfurt, Leipzig and Düsseldorf, among others.

Flights will continue as usual at Munich and Nuremberg airports. Here the security staff falls under a different collective labor agreement.

The strike was called by the Verdi union. The union represents approximately 25,000 employees working in airport security. They demand higher wages in the ongoing collective labor negotiations.

Airline KLM announced on Wednesday that it would cancel 44 flights to and from German airports due to the strikes. KLM reports that passengers will be rebooked on the next possible flight.
