A German accidentally ordered 28 Teslas via the Internet. Cost: 1.4 million euros – the equivalent of almost 1.5 million francs. But actually the Tesla fan only wanted to buy a single car. Instead, he ordered an entire fleet.
The reason for the expensive mishap: A technical bug on the website. On «Reddit», the son of the Tesla buyer has now commented on the order breakdown. Because the family car, a Ford Kuga, is getting on in years, his father wanted to buy a new Tesla Model 3 with an autopilot option for 52,000 euros – the equivalent of 55,290 francs. Last but not least, the environmental bonus that applies to electric cars in Germany was one of the main reasons for his decision.
Order causes «payment problem»
A few clicks, and the order for a Tesla Model 3 was placed. At least that’s what the future owner thought. But then suddenly the message pops up that the order could not be placed due to a payment problem.
The buyer repeatedly tries to complete the order – until after two hours it finally works. “Your order has been sent,” it says. But shortly afterwards the shock: The father bought not one, but 27 more Teslas.
2870 francs for cancellation
It is now known that the car buyer does not have to buy and pay for all Teslas. But the order breakdown is still expensive for the Germans. Because he still has to pay 100 euros for each order that is canceled. The bottom line is that the man is charged 2700 euros – the equivalent of 2870 francs – as the son explains on “Reddit”.
Father and son still hope that they will not have to pay the cancellation fee due to the technical problem when ordering out of goodwill. (wheel)
