The Latvian Basketball Union (LBS) “Open” tour started with tournaments on February 5 in Ropaži and on February 27 in Jelgava, with “3 × 3 Jelgava” becoming the two winners, represented on both occasions by Mārtiņš Šteinbergs, Armands Seņkāns, Armands Ginters and Kristaps Pļavnieks. Of this quartet, only Steinberg played in Madonna, this time together with the champions of the Tokyo Olympic Games Edgars Krūmiņš and Agni Čavars. Gints Zomerfelds took the place of the previously announced Artūrs Sagittarius.

It was the Riga and Düsseldorf 3 × 3 basketball players who convincedly not only played the subgroup tournament, but also made it to the finals. In the decisive match, the German representatives showed excellent accuracy, winning with 21: 9. In the final, Bogers scored eight points and Fertigs six points. Steinberg was the most productive for “Riga” with four points.

22 Ukrainian basketball players had arrived in Madona under the leadership of VEF BA Valka coach Janis Bhutan, who were forced to leave their homes in Cherkasy and Kharkiv due to the dangers of war in Valka. Together with the representatives of Valka Reini Sauer and Vadim Vačiļi, six quartets were formed, receiving the opportunity from LBS to participate in the tournament free of charge.

The best result from the teams made up of Ukrainian basketball players was achieved by the “Hoopers” quartet, which remained one exact shot away from entering the quarterfinals. The Ukrainian trio – Ilya Upir, Vladislav Yefimenko and Nazar Garashchenko – fought in this unit together with Vači. In the 15-team competition, Hoopers won ninth place.

The most successful player in the tournament was the basketball player of the Düsseldorf team Alan Bogers, who scored a total of 56 points in six games. At the expense of “Krāslava” representative Laura Pļaveneks 47 points in six matches. Two participants scored 33 points. Emil Peterson (“3 × 3 M / Srotsmadona.lv”) did it in five games, but Leon Fertig – in six matches.

The remaining two qualifying stages of the LBS Open tour will take place in Ventspils (April 10) and Kandava (April 24).
