Gerindra Party Deputy General Chair: Prabowo and PDI-P Have a Special Relationship

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Deputy General Chair (Waketum) of the Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, responded to the issue of the presidential and vice presidential candidates (capres-cawapres) Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo.

He said that the relationship between Prabowo as General Chair of the Gerindra Party and PDI-P as the supporter of Ganjar Pranowo could be likened to first love.

“Our relationship with PDI-P itself is really good. If you can put it like that, PDI-P is Gerindra’s first love,” said Habiburokhman when met at the Nusantara II Parliament in Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (25/9/2023).

He then revealed that Gerindra’s track record with PDI-P had been established since 2009, when Gerindra was only one year old.

At that time, PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri ran as a presidential candidate paired with Prabowo as her vice presidential candidate.

“We worked together and almost won that time,” he said.

The collaboration between Gerindra and PDI-P continued in 2012 with Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta.

Therefore, Habiburokhman said, the unification of Prabowo and Ganjar is not impossible.

However, he said that the obstacles were purely technical. Because, it is impossible for Prabowo to be positioned as Ganjar’s vice presidential candidate.

“It’s impossible for Pak Prabowo to become vice presidential candidate, we just have to see how likely it is for Pak Ganjar to become vice presidential candidate,” said Habiburokhman.

Previously, Ganjar Pranowo assessed that the opportunity for him to be paired with Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) was possible.

“For politics, before it is decided by the KPU (General Election Commission), all opportunities can occur,” said Ganjar briefly when met at the High End Building, Central Jakarta on September 20 2023.

However, Ganjar was reluctant to comment further regarding the possibility of him pairing up with Prabowo in the 2024 presidential election.

The former Governor of Central Java only said that he did not agree that the candidates for vice presidential candidate had narrowed down to one name, namely the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD.

“Until today (the name of the vice presidential candidate), everything is still being discussed. This is the Secretary General (appointing PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto), here there is the PPP Secretary General (appointing PPP Secretary General Arwani Thomafi). These are the people who are intense today. “I am also involved in communication. So, we are all consulting and of course we are discussing this issue. Be patient,” said Ganjar.
