Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Deputy General Chairman Gerindra Party, Ferry Juliantono alluded to the dominance of the power oligarchy when he met a number of activist in commemoration of the 93rd Anniversary of the Youth Pledge on Thursday (28/10).
In the meeting which was held in the Jalan Dharmawangsa area, South Jakarta, Ferry said that the interests of the nation currently only belong to a number of parties who control the government. Together with a number of activists who were present, he was determined to fight against the dominance of the power oligarchy.
“After we became independent, the results now are not for all, it can even be said that the goal is only for a few people to benefit this nation for what we call the oligarchy,” Ferry told reporters.
“That’s why we read out a resolution, one of which is that we will fight this oligarchy,” he added.
Ferry did not explain the meaning of the oligarchy he called. He only said that the government needs to put the interests of the people first. He criticized the government’s policy which is now considered closer to China.
“Earlier in the resolution, it was stated that being too pro-Beijing has consequences that disrupt the honor and sovereignty of our nation, and the consequences that are accepted and felt by the people of Indonesia,” he said.
A number of activists who attended the meeting were Syahganda Nainggolan, Jumhur Hidayat, constitutional law expert Refly Harun, senior economist Faisal Basri, and other Gerindra politicians such as Arif Poyuono.
On that occasion, they also offended the system presidential threshold currently prevailing as an obstacle to democracy. Ferry is determined to remove the presidential nomination threshold, from 20 percent to 0 percent.
“Hopefully, with the pressure of support from all of us, the Indonesian people who want to presidential threshold it can be 0 percent, it can be won,” he said.
