General Chairman of PBNU Said Aqil ask that President Jokowi be neutral at the NU congress. vice chairman Gerindra Habiburokhman assessed that the request was normative and there was no tendency in other directions.
“We consider Kiai Said’s statement to be normative, not tendentious everywhere,” said Haiburokhman, to reporters, Friday (12/11/2021).
“Normative is the same as the statement ‘let’s keep it clean’, it doesn’t mean that the environment is not clean right now,” he added.
He asked that Said Aqil’s statement should not be interpreted differently. Habiburokhman asked all parties to be prejudiced.
“So Kiai Said’s statement doesn’t need to be interpreted in various ways, we must have mutual prejudice,” he said.
Even so, Habiburokhman believes Jokowi will be neutral. He hoped that the congress process would run smoothly until it was completed.
“On the other hand, we also believe that the Government or the President must be neutral,” he said.
“NU is an asset to the nation, of course we all want the congress process to run smoothly and free from politicization,” continued Habiburokhman.
The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) will hold a congress in December. PBNU Chairman Said Aqil Siroj hopes that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his government will remain neutral at the NU Congress.
“My hope is that Mr. Jokowi as head of state is neutral in terms of this congress,” said Said Aqil during a visit from PBNU to Transmedia, at the Transmedia Office, South Jakarta, Thursday (11/11/2021).
Said Aqil said that NU had its own style in conducting congress. Said Aqil wants the elected general chairman to be NU’s own choice.
“Let NU have its own style, have its own election results,” he said.
Once again, Said Aqil asked the government not to interfere in the NU Congress. He said that if the government intervened, it would potentially damage the NU Congress.
