Gergana Passi cuts! Here are which nominations for European Commissioner will be successful – 2024-08-29 05:15:50

The Bulgarian European Commissioner will “unconditionally” be a woman, regardless of the fact that our country will propose two candidates to the European Commission – a man and a woman. This was announced to BTV by the former Minister for European Affairs, Gergana Passi.

So far, there has been no such case – seven candidates for European Commissioner and acting Prime Minister to choose, noted Passi.

This procedure is for the public, it aims to give and strengthen the legitimacy of the caretaker government to propose the new Bulgarian European Commissioner for five years, she commented on the request of the Council of Ministers that the parties in the parliament put forward nominations.

Most countries have an established profile and, according to it, they make requests in which areas they want to see their European Commissioner active. In Bulgaria, the approach is the opposite, but we will also receive a portfolio according to the person we propose, explained Passi.

Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev continues his talks with the parliamentary groups nominated for the post of Bulgarian European Commissioner today, BNR reports.

Glavchev requested nominations from the parliamentary formations so that the caretaker government could choose and send the official two nominations of our country to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Friday.

The President of the EC expects from Bulgaria two candidacies for European Commissioner to choose, one of which must be a man, the second – a woman.

Since yesterday, it has become clear that the PP-DB is appointing Julian Popov – former Minister of the Environment and Waters from Denkov’s office – to the post, and the coalition indicates that through him Bulgaria should receive the strategic department of energy, since our country is managed to free itself from energy dependence on Russia.

“Vazrazhdane” nominated economist Victor Papazov, who is a Harvard graduate, creator of the Stock Exchange in the 1990s, and was deputy chairman of the Central Depository.

The executive bureau of the BSP decided to nominate two candidates for European Commissioner of Bulgaria – a man and a woman. MP Dragomir Stoynev and, if Bulgaria receives the portfolio of energy, Tsvetelina Penkova are nominated.

So far, Glavchev has held talks with Ekaterina Zaharieva, an MP and former foreign minister, proposed by the GERB-SDS for Bulgarian European Commissioner, with Iskra Mihailova, an MP from the DPS and a former MEP, and with Velislava Petrova, nominated by the “There is such a people” party, who is was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Chief Program Director of the “International Center for Future Generations” in Brussels.
