A four-year-old boy was attacked by a dog in Bavaria. The animal broke off the leash on Friday evening, attacked the boy and bit his face several times, the police said. The child was hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The dog owner is said to have fled after the attack. However, emergency services found him in his apartment a little later, the police said. The 28-year-old is now being investigated for negligent bodily harm. The dog is now in an animal shelter.
