“Bulgaria meets 3 out of 4 criteria for this. There remains one last criterion, for which perhaps efforts should be made and the corresponding agreements made with the member states in the EU. Because this is not only an internal political issue, but also a political issue with European dimensions”, said Gerdzhikov.
“I don’t know if this ambition of mine will be able to be realized within the cabinet, as there is a lot of work to be done. There are busy people working on this. I would be happy if we manage to bring it to an end, but as of today I cannot guarantee it,” the caretaker prime minister also indicated.
No one knows what will happen, Gerdzhikov said in relation to what horizon he thinks the cabinet will have. “The attitude is that the official cabinet will have a life of two and a half – 3 months, but it is not excluded that in view of the results of the elections, it will not be possible to form a cabinet in a timely manner and enter into a spiral, which will not be good for anyone at all . Regardless, we will fulfill our duties, unless President Radev decides to appoint a new cabinet,” Gerdzhikov said.
Gerdzhikov commented on the question of a European commissioner as very delicate. “The decision that is authoritative is that until the elections on March 26, the official cabinet will not issue a European commissioner. After the elections, however, if a government is not formed immediately, then we will appoint a European Commissioner, because the continuation of time for Bulgaria to be without a European Commissioner is not good for Bulgaria. We haven’t had a European Commissioner for 2 months now, we can have another 1 month, but from there on, if we don’t have a positive result of the elections, the official cabinet will appoint a European Commissioner”, Ognyan Gerdzhikov also said.
