GERB Proposes Withdrawal of Lukoil’s Derogation for Import of Russian Oil

GERB will submit next week to the parliament a draft decision to withdraw the derogation of “Lukoil” for the import of Russian oil in our country. The party stated that the decision voted in the parliament – to extend the import until October 2024, was made under pressure.

GERB’s request is for the MPs to oblige the government to withdraw the derogation from the Russian company in a short period of time. According to Delyan Dobrev, only Lukoil benefits from it, but not the Bulgarian citizens.

Dobrev: The decision to extend Lukoil’s derogation was made under pressure, Denkov threatened to resign

A comment also came from “We continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria”. According to them, the abolition of the derogation will lead to a sharp jump in fuel prices. In a position from DPS, Delyan Peevski declared support for the idea of GERB-SDS.

GERB-SDS are adamant that Lukoil’s derogation should expire earlier than planned. “The facts are eloquent – only “Lukoil” profits from this derogation, and in the amount of billions of dollars per year. There is no benefit for the Bulgarian user. We are receiving information from several sources that the derogation is being violated,” said Dobrev.

GERB’s proposal comes only a month after the National Assembly decided at the end of September that the refinery will operate with Russian oil until October next year. “This decision was taken under pressure from the cabinet. We received threats from Prime Minister Denkov that he would resign and the cabinet would fall. We complied with these threats and voted for a longer term until October 2024. Now we see no reason for it to stay, even if it is repeated with threats from the cabinet”, the deputy is categorical.

Vassilev: The Cabinet will discuss GERB’s proposal to revoke Lukoil’s derogation

In the plenary hall, GERB would also seek support from “Democratic Bulgaria”. “Ending the derogation at this point, surprisingly, will lead to higher fuel prices, lead to inflation as well. Borisov and Dobrev must give guarantees to the public that the scenario like the Borisov 1 cabinet will not occur, commented PP-DB deputy Venko Sabrutev.

The Minister of Finance also commented on the topic. “By seeing real texts and real proposals, it will be possible to comment on something real. What we see happening right now is that for the first time Lukoil starts paying taxes and the state collects the money from the refinery”, said Asen Vassilev.

According to the co-chairman of the PP Kiril Petkov, the government is taking “the most meaningful steps in connection with the diversification of gas”. “The approach to Lukoil is very systematic”, is his opinion.

DPS will support ending the Lukoil derogation

A position on the derogation also came from the DPS. In it, the co-chairman of the parliamentary group, Delyan Peevski, states that the party supports the withdrawal of the derogation. According to him, the vote on this decision will clearly outline whose side the parliamentary parties and coalitions are on – that of the citizens and Euro-Atlanticism or the side of Lukoil, Russia and the financing of the war against Ukraine, the position reads.

The DPS wants the heads of customs and the NRA to report on Monday whether the company is evading sanctions and paying the necessary taxes.
