/ world today news/ “According to GERB, the strength of their party is Boyko Borisov, who bravely destroys all corruption schemes. Obviously, GERB have a sense of humor,” commented the People’s Representative from the PG of “BSP for Bulgaria” Elena Yoncheva from the parliamentary rostrum. According to her, in the conditions of jokes and teasing, corruption has become the norm of life. He cited petty bribes to officials, bought diplomas and driver’s licenses as examples. “GERB managed to introduce corruption even into kindergartens,” she added.
According to her, there is already a concentration of power in entire municipalities, where politicians, through front companies of business partners and relatives, drain public resources for millions. “The financial and economic schemes of people close to power are already leading to contract killings,” added Elena Yoncheva.
A management model has already been put together, which turns regional cities into feudal domains of businessmen-politicians, she continued. “Dominions where the law does not apply to the one who is close to the mayor, the police or GERB. Dominions where the Bulgarian, who is not part of the corruption scheme, has no chance for prosperity,” stressed Elena Yoncheva. She is categorical that the lack of competition kills every business, takes away the right to a future for entire generations.
“GERB even managed to create a legal corruption scheme for BGN 2 billion – the rehabilitation. There are cases when it is more expensive to rehabilitate buildings than to rebuild them,” she pointed out. According to her, the money for remediation has been repeatedly inflated and this became clear already in 2015, when the state paid over BGN 300/sq.m. – twice as expensive. “In Haskovo, for example, with the participation of 130 companies in the last remediation order, ten blocks out of 11 were won by the circle of relatives and friends of the regional coordinator of GERB, for which we have documents and they have been provided to the prosecutor’s office,” the left-wing MP also said .
According to Yoncheva, there is no doubt that GERB’s financial and economic schemes generate corruption and poverty in the homeland. “These schemes are used to win elections, and part of the resource is used to buy media influence. It is not by chance that Bulgaria has fallen in the rankings for media freedom,” said the People’s Representative.
Elena Yoncheva also recalled the Sujukgate case. She is of the opinion that GERB even tried to cover up the corruption related to the border fence. “The facility was built in poor quality, the projects were changed and differed significantly from the initial assignment of the Ministry of the Interior. How will Borisov explain to the public that BGN 180 million was spent on the fence along the Turkish border, and even before the onset of winter, it begins to fall,” Yoncheva asked. According to her, the fence between Greece and Turkey has much better parameters and is much cheaper.
The MP cited a US State Department report that said: “Employees in all branches of government have engaged in corrupt practices with impunity. Corrupt practices also involve sophisticated embezzlement schemes’. “Why doesn’t the prime minister answer – who are these complex schemes, who are these officials involved in corrupt practices?” Elena Yoncheva continued with the questions.
According to her, the law of omerta is undeniably observed in Bulgaria – the law of the mafia, of silence. “But the Bulgarian has a point of tolerance and I think we have already reached it. The transformation of Bulgaria into a corrupt possession of GERB and Borisov, into a territory with no prospects for us, the Bulgarians, will not pass,” Elena Yoncheva is categorical.
