GERB leader Boyko Borisov condemns attack on European Commission building in Sofia and calls for unity in resolving political crisis.

Deepening our Euro-Atlantic integration can be a counterpoint to hostile Russian influence in our society. This is what GERB leader Boyko Borisov wrote on Facebook after the building of the European Commission was painted red today.

The former Prime Minister of Bulgaria condemned the actions of the demonstrators and stated that the entire international community expects decisive actions from our country to get out of the political crisis.

“Today, our and the international public are watching with anticipation the resolution of the severe political crisis in which our country has been for two years,” he wrote.

Borissov stressed that all democratic systemic parties must unite to ensure the election of a government that will bring stability.

“In this regard, I call once again on the democratic systemic parties to stand united in the name of the national interests of Bulgaria, projecting a strong regular government,” the post also reads.

I categorically condemn the attack on the building of the representation of the European Commission in Sofia. It is extremely worrying that this act of vandalism comes at a time of severe challenges for Bulgaria. Today, our and the international public are watching with anticipation the resolution of the severe political crisis in which our country has been for two years. It is the responsibility of political parties, especially those who flaunt their patriotic sentiments the most, to ensure the security, stability and integrity of the state, instead of encouraging new divisions and scandals. In this regard, I call once again on the democratic systemic parties to stand united in the name of the national interests of Bulgaria, projecting a strong regular government. Only guarantees for deepening the processes of our Euro-Atlantic integration can be a counterpoint to hybrid attempts to infiltrate hostile Russian influence into our society.
