GERB Leader Boyko Borisov Responds to Ultimatum with Counter-Condition
In response to the ultimatum set by the second political power, Boyko Borisov, the leader of GERB, has presented a counter-condition to “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria”. Borisov expressed his willingness to sign the declaration of his partners, but only if it is in the form of a coalition agreement.
The meeting, held in Veliko Tarnovo, was opened by the mayors of Veliko Tarnovo and Burgas, who highlighted the severe impact of the lack of a state budget and the delay in European projects and payments under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan on the municipalities. Desislava Atanasova and Tomislav Donchev also commented on the events of yesterday and the tension with “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria”, as reported by Bulgaria ON AIR.
Atanasova commented, “The ultimatums, the conditions, for us are just part of a game. We do not participate in such things.” Donchev expressed his concern about the recent developments, stating, “Is what’s been happening the last few days normal? It’s not normal. You can’t hold the entire executive power with 15% of the people’s representatives. I don’t mean only the political side. All kinds of administrative positions are absorbed where legally, where not. And with 15% you want the whole parliament to comply with you.”
Boyko Borisov, the leader of GERB-SDS, emphasized that there are no ministers or deputy ministers in the GERB administration. He stated, “We have returned the mandate, we accept Denkov, not our Maria, at one point they decided that they can command the party, that they can also command the parliament. Everyone who was close to GERB has been excommunicated, and in the parliament they are in complete isolation. But we are not allies in the true sense of the word, we have not signed this thing anywhere.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel emphasized the importance of dialogue and reason in management. She said, “When you want to have a nationally responsible agenda and in the country to make decisions as a result of discussion, transparency, clear rules and principles, there is no reason for this government to be unstable – as we do with Prime Minister Academician Denkov! GERB will continue to participate in this government only after signing an official coalition agreement between the parties.”
Borisov added, “Let’s write a coalition agreement and settle everything! So when they come from where they are, we’ll meet and move on. We offered them a coalition agreement, it took them a month and a half to remember that’s the only way the real thing works coalition.”
During the forum, it was revealed that GERB will propose changing the deadline of 2025 for the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria, as initiated by “Vazrazhdane”, and hold a referendum on the matter.
The political landscape in Bulgaria remains tense as the negotiations and discussions continue between the different parties involved. The outcome of these talks will have a significant impact on the future direction of the country.
In what ways does Boyko Borisov emphasize the need for a united front and respect for powers in addressing the challenges faced by Bulgaria

He stressed, “We need to work together to overcome the economic crisis, to secure the funds necessary for the development of our regions and municipalities, and to ensure the implementation of the Recovery and Sustainability Plan.”
The GERB leader expressed his willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and find common ground with his partners. He stated, “Coalition agreements require compromise and cooperation. We are here to negotiate, to find solutions that are beneficial for all parties involved.”
