GERB Condemns Assassination Attempt on Chief Prosecutor and Urges Legal Reform Completion

“This is a monstrous act. I sympathize with Ivan Geshev, his family,” GERB leader Boyko Borisov told the media.

“An assassination attempt on any person is a sinister thing, especially with an explosion. I was a victim. This is an act that endangers the life of the chief prosecutor and his family, but it can also endanger any random person,” added Borisov.

He stressed that the party condemns this act with “all the power they have”.

“This is an ugly event, this attack has bad consequences for Bulgaria,” the GERB leader also said.

In his words, this event makes the members of the National Assembly even more ambitious to complete the legal reform.

“There are a few figures in this draft cabinet that I can’t say anything bad about. But they messed up the timing, the people said clearly and precisely – they cannot govern alone,” Borisov said on the occasion of the cabinet option presented by “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria”.

“This is a party cabinet, since Denkov and Vassilev participate in it. If places are found in the template for our experts as ministers, it can happen,” the GERB leader also said.

“I congratulate Kiril Petkov that he is not in the office. But only Asen Vassilev, if they let him go – it’s either a big trust, or a big trap. The main criticisms were towards Asen Vassilev. Vassilev’s only friend at the moment is called Boyko Borisov,” he commented.

Borisov refused to name experts from GERB-SDS who would take part in a cabinet as ministers, because “he does not want to blow up the current coalition negotiations.”

“I wish them well with the others. The others have names – Slavi Trifonov, Karadai, Kornelia Ninova, Kostadinov. If the others say ok, we return the mandate and go to the second one. If they say no, then we are obliged to use the first one and each party to show responsibility,” commented Borisov.

He added that if the first political force were to propose the composition of a cabinet, it would not have a term longer than six months, in order to adopt the budget, as well as the laws for the Recovery Plan.
