NetherRealm revealed this week another playable character in Mortal Kombat 1 and the announcement left fans of the brawling saga intrigued. Its about Gooda character who debuted in the previous game and who, for many, no longer existed.
In Mortal Kombat 11, Geras was one of the main antagonists, serving as the guardian of Kronica, the titan who controlled the timelines. When Liu Kang defeated Kronica, he used the Hourglass, a powerful cosmic artifact, to rewrite history and create a more peaceful universe.
In this new reality, in which Kronica does not exist, many imagined that Geras would not return either, but the character was revealed in the Guardians of Time trailer, which you can watch below:
Geras’ role in Mortal Kombat 1 looks almost the same as before: he’s a guardian of the Hourglass, which controls time and fate across all realms. He is omniscient and suggests that the peaceful world Liu Kang created is compromised.
Apparently, Geras did not serve Kronica, but temporal continuity itself. Thus, in the new game, he seems to be an ally of the new god of fire Liu Kang, and not an enemy of the defenders of the Earth.
Geras powers allow you to freeze enemies in time during the fight

The video also shows some of Geras’ movements, which continues to hit hard and paralyze opponents in time, as he did in MK11. He can continue bludgeoning paralyzed enemies, which accumulate damage until they spring back into action.
Mortal Kombat 1 will have a beta test between August 18th and 25th, with guaranteed access for those who pre-purchase the game, which arrives in September for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
