Gerardo López Gonzales, who replaces Luis Vera Castillo, will assume the top position at Sunat for five years.
Economist Gerardo López Gonzales was sworn in as National Superintendent of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), in a ceremony led by the president of the Judiciary, Javier Arévalo Vela.
The act is carried out in compliance with Legislative Decree No. 501, article 7, which states that the superintendent of Sunat, to assume his duties, must take an oath before the president of the Supreme Court.
The activity was attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Eduardo Arana, the supreme judges Elvia Barrios Alvarado, Roberto Burneo Bermejo and Ramiro Bustamante Zegarra and relatives of the new authority.
The new superintendent of Sunat is an economist from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, with a Master’s degree in Public Finance and Tax Administration from the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain-UNED, and with postgraduate studies in tax techniques and administrative law.
He served as National Mayor of Process Management. With more than 15 years in the public sector, López has developed his professional work at Sunat, and has managerial experience in taxation and management of tax administration processes at the national level. He was also a consultant, during 2021, to the Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
