Xavi began his coaching career by taking over Al Sadd SC in the summer of 2019.
The midfield icon spent just over two years at the Qatari club – but in November 2021 it was time to return to Spain.
Xavi then took on the role of head coach of the Spanish giants Barcelona, a role he has held ever since.
The debut season ended with second place in La Liga – but last season went all the better, and Barcelona took home the title.
This season, however, Barcelona has taken a step back in terms of the table. The team is currently in third place.
At the end of January, Xavi announced that he would be leaving his role as head coach at the end of the season, despite a contract that extends for another year.
However, it has since been reported that Barcelona are trying to persuade the 44-year-old to change his decision, and continue as head coach.
The Spanish big club’s former centre-back, Gerard Piqué, believes that this will be the case.
– I don’t think Xavi’s decision is 100 percent correct. We will see, but I think he will stay, Piqué told The Times and continued:
Want the best for him.
– I don’t talk to Xavi every day, but we have talked a few times. I want the best for him, because it will be the best for the club.
Among others, Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Rúben Amorim (Sporting CP) and Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton) have been identified as potential replacements for Xavi.
