Gerard Joling is exposed by Hélène Hendriks: ‘Are you playing back now?’

Gerard Joling was exposed in the talk show of Hélène Hendriks. After a flawless performance, he turned out to be talking incredibly hoarsely. “Are you just lip-synching?”

It is the only way Gerard Joling can squeeze himself into the much-watched talk shows of SBS 6: if he sings a song. The entertainer is not allowed to sit at the table of RTL boss Peter van der Vorst, probably out of fear that he will then start shouting all sorts of rabidly right-wing things. That is why he was seen singing on the competitor yesterday.

Extremely hoarse

Gerard trad in de talkshow The Orange Sunday by presenter Hélène Hendriks with a hardstyle version of his hit Maak Me Gek; behind him were two DJs. “You have two handsome boys behind you,” said the presenter.

After the flawless performance, Gerard answers with an extremely hoarse voice: “Yes, these two gentlemen… Yes, that’s new these days: hardstyle. I have to tell you: I performed for the first time last year at a hardstyle festival and I didn’t know what was happening. 35,000 people in the stadium and now with you guys.”

‘Lost your voice?’

Hélène finds it a strange sensation. “Have you already lost your voice?”

Gerard: “Yes, I’m very hoarse.”

Table guest Rutger Castricum: “I think it’s great that he talks like that now, while he just sang like that. That you talk with such a voice, but that you sang just as clearly live.”

Gerard tries again: “Yes, but that is the difference between a speaking voice and a singing voice.”

‘Full playback!’

It was probably agreed behind the scenes that Gerard would not talk, because then his lip-synching would be very easy to find out, but Hélène does not stick to that. She teases him: “But was it lip-synching?”

Gerard admits: “Full playback!

It causes hilarity in the studio. Hélène: “Are you just coming to sing or are you coming to join in a bit of conversation?”

Join the conversation

Well, no, Gerard’s boss Peter van der Vorst won’t let him join in. “I would have liked to talk, but that’s a bit sensitive with my employer.”

Eventually, Hélène gets him to sit next to Merel Ek. He says a few things during the broadcast, but doesn’t return after the commercial break. “He’s gone to the toilet,” says Hélène.

Hopefully Peter didn’t call him on the supreme moment. Splash!
