Actor Gerard Depardieu, suspected of sexually assaulting two women in 2021, will go on trial in October 2024, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced.
Earlier, the famous actor was taken into police custody.
“At the end of his detention (…) Gerard Depardieu was served with a summons to appear before a criminal court (…) for the sexual assaults that may have been committed in September 2021 against the two victims, on the set of the film “Les volets verts “” clarified the prosecution.
The actor, who is already being prosecuted for another rape, was testifying all day today to the police regarding the complaints of two women. At around 20:30 (Greece time), one of his lawyers, Christian Saint-Palace, told reporters that the police custody had ended and Depardieu was no longer at the police station. “When a man is accused, fatally, at some point he has to give an explanation. So today was one of those days where he had to explain the charges against him, which he disputes,” the lawyer added, expressing his regret at the leak of information to the press.
A decorator working on the 2021 film Les Volets Verts accused Depardieu of sexually assaulting her and filed a lawsuit against him in 2024. The second complaint was made by the assistant director on the same film.
Another woman, a production assistant, accuses Depardieu of sexually assaulting her in 2014, when she was 24. According to the newspaper Le Courrier de d’Ouest, the woman filed a lawsuit on January 9, alleging that he assaulted her and made indecent proposals to her on the set of the film “Le Magicien el les Siamois” by Jean-Pierre Mocky.
Depardieu was prosecuted in 2020 for rape and sexual assault, with the victim being the young actress Charlotte Arnoux. Actress Helen Daras also accused him of sexual assault on the set of a movie in 2007, but that case was dropped because the statute of limitations has expired.
In Spain, Depardieu is accused of raping journalist and writer Ruth Bassa in 1995.
In total, 20 women have denounced him, either in court or with their statements in the media.
