Gérard Depardieu Faces Loss of Légion d’Honneur in France and Removal of Honorary Titles in Belgium

Actor Gérard Depardieu is making his badge of honor “available”, his lawyers report. French Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak had announced disciplinary proceedings against Gérard Depardieu on Friday following complaints against the actor of rape and sexual assault, which could see the actor lose his decoration in the Légion d’Honneur. Depardieu received the badge of honor in 1996 from then President Jacques Chirac.

This week it was announced that the actor, after all the fuss in France, has moved back to our country. More specifically to the village of Mont-Saint-Aubert in Hainaut. It is not the first time that Depardieu has fled to our country. To escape the sky-high French wealth tax, he settled in Néchin in 2013, also in the province of Hainaut. He did this, like many other French millionaires, to avoid the so-called ‘rich tax’ that then-president François Hollande had created. Depardieu was declared an honorary citizen in Néchin, but the municipal council announced this weekend that they were withdrawing the honorary title. It was also announced on Friday that the actor would lose his Canadian decoration, the decoration of the National Order of Quebec, the most important award of the French-speaking province in Canada.

LOOK. Gérard Depardieu, without a trace, appears in our country.
