Geraldine Chaplin: Carving Her Own Path in International Cinema

Teresa Garcia Amaro

MEXICO CITY, July 31 (EL UNIVERSAL).- Being the daughter of one of the greatest figures in international cinema is not easy, but that has not limited the fact that Geraldine Chaplin has carved her own path and has spread her wings beyond the cinema hollywood.

Born in Santa Monica, California on July 31, 1944, Geraldine made her appearance in the 1965 film “Doctor Zhivago.” At that time, she was young and very beautiful and with very characteristic moles under her eyelashes that have always made her look like a fantastic character out of some madman’s dreams.

Geraldine not only stayed in the United States but has also made a career in France and Spain where she has participated in the films “Les Uns et les Autres” (1981), “Life is a bed of roses” (1983), “Ana y los wolves” (1973), “Cría Cuervos” (1976), “Elisa, my life” (1977), “Mama turns one hundred years old” (1979).

Nominations for his work not only include Golden Globes and Baftas, but also the Goya for his performance in “En la ciudad sin límites” (2002) and “El orfanato” (2007).

Chaplin is not afraid of playing difficult roles, as demonstrated in “Sand Dollars” (2015) where she played an older woman who travels to the Dominican Republic to have an affair with a young local woman whom she fulfills her every whim or in less intense roles such as in the Spanish comedy film “What is a bear for?” (2011).

This 2023, Geraldine Chaplin celebrates her 79 years of life and almost 60 years of career (before acting she was a model) and with her she also lives her father’s legacy, demonstrating that talent is also inherited.
