The Minister of the Interior announced on Friday the dispatch of police reinforcements to Nîmes, where two people were killed this week amid drug trafficking. A response welcomed by the Union of Commissioners of the National Police, which nevertheless regrets the absence of the “international component”.

“Gérald Darmanin’s announcements respond to both short and long time”greeted Friday August 25 on franceinfo David Le Bars, secretary general of the Union of National Police Commissioners (SNCP), after the announcements of the Minister of the Interior in Nîmes where he is traveling after the death of two people on Monday 21 and Thursday, August 24 against the backdrop of drug trafficking.

Gérald Darmanin announced in particular the dispatch of a CRS unit to the site, but also the dispatch of 15 judicial police officers and the creation of a GIR, an interministerial research group for the police and the gendarmerie making it possible to investigate drug money laundering on the spot.

According to David Le Bars, it will be necessary “a fair balance between operational time, police operations which represent the short time, and underground investigative work, which represents the long time”. “Efficiency will take a long time”adds the police unionist, even if “It’s not tomorrow that a GIR will show financial results, you have to be patient on judicial time”.

The secretary general of the SNCP nevertheless regrets the absence, in Gérald Darmanin’s speech, of the “volet international which is however “the source of the problem” : “We know that 80% of the world’s cannabis production comes from Morocco, it cannot be outside the anti-narcotics system”.
