Geostroy Wins Bid to Build New Sofia Metro Station in ‘Copper Factory’ Area

The company “Geostroy” will build the new station of the Sofia metro in the area of ”Copper Factory” between the existing stops MC “Obelya” and MC “Slivnitsa”, according to the public procurement register. The company participated in the “Metropolitan” auction, which was announced at the beginning of March this year. A total of six construction companies joined it, including the well-known “GP Group” and “Trace Group Hold”. The winner is preferred with an offer to build the site for BGN 43.78 million. without VAT at an estimated price of “Metropolitan” of BGN 47 million. The next lowest offer is from “BS Construction” – BGN 45 million without VAT.

Geostroy is part of the Geotechmin group, whose owner is businessman Tsolo Vutov. Executive director of “Geostroy” is Vladimir Tsolov Vutov. The two companies have already built the metro in Sofia – MC “Vasil Levski Stadium”, MC “James Boucher” and MC “Business Park”. The contract for the new site stipulates that it will be built within 36 months after the start of the activities. Not long ago, the head of “Metropolitan” Eng. Stoyan Bratoev announced that the work could start in the fall and end in 2026.

As “Sega” wrote, the new metro station will connect with an also new railway. train station and also with a bus station. They will serve passengers from and to Kyustendil, Bankya, Bozhurishte, Slivnitsa, Dragoman, etc. The money for the new intermodal center comes from the Transport Connectivity 2021-2027 operational programme.

The idea of building a metro station in the Copper Factory area was first floated in 2017. Then the Metropolitan City Council accepted a proposal from an American private company that intended to build a huge residential complex in the area, to pay 51 percent of the cost at the new stop. Due to the offer of the foreign company, it received the name “first private metro station”. The rest of the money had to come from Sofia’s budget, as the total value of the deviation was then estimated at BGN 24 million. “Metropolitan” explicitly explained that, despite the public-private partnership, the ownership of the new station would be entirely its own and that the interest of the Americans to finance the site is that the stop will then serve the residents of the new neighborhood. In the end, however, the contract with the American company did not materialize.

In 2020, it became clear that the 106 decares of land behind the “Hit” and “Praktiker” hypermarkets, on which the Americans intended to build, passed into the hands of a company managed by businessman Hristo Chepishev. 3 years ago, he presented to the Metropolitan Municipal Council his intentions to build a residential complex in the same place. “West”. More than 7,800 people are expected to live there. In 2021, the investor showed the revised documents, in which a kindergarten was already present, due to the lack of which his project was initially postponed. After that, the report on the new neighborhood “Zapad” was adopted with a large majority, including both the governing parties from GERB-SDS, as well as “Democratic Bulgaria” and BSP.
