Research team on Mars “a stable colony size” developed a model for calculating the initial population of the creation. This model achieved results by processing different scenarios over 28 Earth years.
MINIMUM POPULATION MUST BE 10 FOR A STABLE COLONY
The researchers noted that in addition to four critical tasks on Mars, air, water, food production and waste removal, there are two skills required for each mission. To perform these basic tasks “stable” determined the minimum population required for a colony size to be 10.
Tests have shown that initial population sizes can sustain a population of at least 10 individuals over time, and a minimum of 22 individuals are needed to meet this criterion. This is considerably lower than the previously estimated minimum of 110.
