Georgian President demands consideration of Russian decision at Security Council

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili demands to consider the Russian decision at the Security Council.

Russia offers Georgia to conclude an agreement with the devil – this is how the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry commented on Putin’s decision to cancel visas for Georgian citizens and resume air traffic. This, they say in our diplomatic department, looks like compensation for the failure of the existing Georgian authorities to impose sanctions on Russia. At the same time, as the speaker of parliament and the government welcomed the Russian innovation, Georgians are beginning to gather on the street to prevent further rapprochement between Tbilisi and Moscow, TSN says.

Having gathered near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the protesters in Tbilisi are demanding the introduction of a visa regime against Russia. The Kremlin on the eve announced the abolition of visas for Georgians and the abolition of restrictions on flights to Georgia. This news caught the Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs in Berlin and he did not see anything bad in it. “Looking at this decision from a humanitarian perspective, any responsible government should welcome it. This simplifies the lives of our citizens and gives them the opportunity to freely communicate and travel,” says Ilia Darchiashvili.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili demands that the Russian decision be considered at the Security Council, and does not select diplomatic words in his address to the Georgians. “What is the purpose of this provocation? Firstly, it may cover up their defeat in Bakhmut. I don’t know how to describe it, but it can cover them where they can’t show strength. Maybe this is a response to the new eleventh package of sanctions from the European Union. The most important thing is that this provocation is directed against society,” she says.

The incident of the political situation in Georgia is that the pro-European president and the pro-Russian ruling party “Georgian Dream” are on opposite sides of the barricades. The next parliamentary elections are still a year and a half away. “Georgians need European integration, not integration with Russia. And the government is trying to link our economy, our political system with the Russian one. But we know that only authoritarian regimes maintain friendly relations with Russia now,” says Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the united opposition movement.

The recent protests in Tbilisi have shown that the Georgians are noticeably tired of Russia and the guests. “Putin’s decision to abolish visas is a reward to our government for a policy that has been promoting the past two years. But it seems to me that Georgia should look towards Europe, and not towards Russia,” the protesters say.

The European Union has urged Georgia, aspiring to join the EU, to adhere to sanctions against Russian air carriers. European Commission Speaker Peter Stano noted that it is not worth letting Russian planes into the country even for security reasons, because due to restrictive measures, 95 percent of the Russian aircraft fleet cannot be repaired in accordance with international standards. The US State Department has warned that if direct flights between Russia and Georgia are resumed, companies at Georgian airports risk being sanctioned for the operation of aircraft.

Recall that Armenia and Azerbaijan accused each other of escalating at the borderare reporting the wounded.

The Armenian Defense Ministry stated that the Azerbaijani military had been shelling Armenian positions located in the Gegharkunik region of the country since 6 am and reported 3 wounded.

The military department of Azerbaijan, in turn, reported that the Armenian military hit the head of an Azerbaijani soldier and accused Yerevan of violating the ceasefire.

The aggravation occurs 3 days before the meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Brussels with the participation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel, where the leaders of the warring countries were supposed to communicate for the first time since this winter.
