A 23-year-old man is accused of several attempted robberies with violence committed in 24 hours in Valenciennes and Denain (North), reports The voice of the North.
The respondent notably injured one of his victims, a 71-year-old woman, who went to the center of Valenciennes on December 20 to admire the Christmas decorations. As she crossed the Jacob Bridge, the assailant violently pinned her on the frame to grab her handbag.
An ordered psychiatric expertise
As a result of the assault, the septuagenarian suffers from a double fracture to her face. That same day, the man also attempted to steal the purses of two other women, which he strangled. The day before, he tried to steal a car, this time in Denain: he tried to extract the keys from his victim who was injured, according to the regional daily.
The defendant, a 23-year-old Georgian living in a Valencian home, was to be tried in immediate appearance on Thursday, December 24. However, the court decided otherwise and ordered a psychiatric expertise, placing the individual in pre-trial detention.
