BUSINESS. During the conference International Transport and Automotive Summit, the Georgian company, Bewegen Technologie, won the award for Excellence in the transport and motorized transport sectors. This conference took place between June 29 and July 1 in Las Vegas.
The company specializing in the manufacture of self-service electric bicycles was chosen as the recipient of the award from among more than 300 selected companies. Bewegen Technology was competing against big known suppliers like Lime, Bird and Bixi.
To win the award, she had to distinguish herself in five major categories. That of innovation is the category in which it has stood out, believes the President and CEO (CEO), Mario Carrier.
“It is a great pride for us to represent Quebec and Beauce on the international scene. It is a team effort which will allow us a better representation and a higher visibility during the project proposal ”, affirms the CEO.
Who are they ?
Bewegen Technologie is especially recognized worldwide for having developed one of the first electric shareable bicycles which are also rechargeable at the station. The bicycles produced are also connected to a cell phone and the price for renting them varies according to the customer’s need.
“There are several plans, including monthly, annual, daily, hourly and daily. In Massachusetts, customers have a student package, while in Portugal, they have access to a personal bike, ”says Mario Carrier.
The head office and manufacturing plant moved to Saint-Georges about five years ago. Borrow stations are mostly located in the United States and Europe, in countries such as Portugal and the United Kingdom. The bikes and stations are developed by Bewegen Technology, but a partnership with Rocky Mountain has been entered into to manufacture the bikes.
Develop in the region
Currently, the only Bewegen Technologie facility in Quebec is located in Saint-Charles-sur-Richelieu. Development in large urban centers like Quebec and Montreal is essential in the coming years for the good of the company, but Mario Carrier hopes to develop cities in the regions like Saint-Georges.
“We have set up several test programs in Quebec in recent months. Places like Lévis took part and we spoke with cities like Saint-Georges for future partnerships, ”says the CEO.
He believes that the addition of stations in cities like Saint-Georges could be beneficial for the region. “People use our bikes for several reasons, they don’t need a second vehicle, can exercise, are fun to use and can be of benefit to many tourism aspects,” concludes the CEO.
