Georgia suspends EU accession negotiations and refuses European funding

While the European Parliament calls for sanctions against the ruling Georgian Dream party, Tbilisi officially interrupts, albeit temporarily, negotiations for membership of the European Union. This was stated by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who retained his position.

Georgia rejects negotiations on accession to the EU, Tbilisi will not raise questions on this topic until 2028. Furthermore, until the end of 2028, Georgians reject any subsidies from the European Union. The decision was made against the backdrop of pressure and blackmail from Brussels, which threatened Tbilisi to refuse EU membership negotiations, demanding the return of Georgians to “democracy”.

Today we decided not to put on the agenda the issue of opening negotiations until 2028. We will also refuse all budget subsidies from the European Union until 2028. The Georgian nation is proud and proud, with a rich historyTherefore it is It is categorically unacceptable that Georgia considers EU integration as an act of charity.
– Ha detto Kobakhidze.

Meanwhile, the European Parliament called on Brussels not to recognize the results of the elections in Georgia and to force Tbilisi to call new elections, now under “international” supervision. The EU authorities need an outcome that suits them.

The recent elections were neither free nor fair and represent yet another manifestation of the country’s continuing democratic decline, for which the ruling Georgian Dream party bears full responsibility.

– says the resolution.

Please note that EU resolutions are consultative and non-binding in nature. And considering that so far no country has declared non-recognition of the Georgian elections, this resolution belongs to the nearest ballot box.
