Georgia rejects appeals for election irregularities –

The Justice Department dismissed the demands of the non-governmental organization «Association of Young Jurists of Georgia» and the group of observers “My vote” that asked to annul the results of the votes in around 1,440 of the 3,111 polling stations for alleged violation of the secrecy of the vote.

At the same time, it annulled the ruling of a court of first instance according to which in the Georgian municipalities of Tetritskaro and Tsalka the right to secret voting had been violated in 31 polling stations.

According to Georgian law, the decisions of the appeal courts cannot be appealed to the Supreme Court, so the plaintiffs announced that they will go to the Supreme Court. European Court of Human Rights of Strasbourg.

The head of the legal department of the Central Election Commission of Georgia, George Santurianistated that the court ruling confirmed that the right to secret voting was respected during the past parliamentary elections.
