According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, an explosion damaged The Georgia Guidestones in northeast Georgia, forcing authorities to demolish it on Wednesday.
The Georgia Guidestones, a granite attraction in Elbert County, are located on Guidestone Road, just east of Ga. Highway 77.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene and saw one of the pillars of America’s Stonehenge reduced to rubble. The top block also appeared to be damaged in the corner which was supported by the demolished block. It is not known which languages were on the destroyed block.
Investigators said unidentified people set off an explosive device around 4 a.m. Elbert County investigators arrived and found much of the structure was damaged.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and the GBI Bomb Squad responded. Elberton Granite Association executive vice president Chris Kubas said fixed cameras had been installed at the site due to vandalism. He added that the cameras are working all the time and are being forwarded to a 911 call centre. Mr Kubas said the Elberton Granite Association had a role to play in maintaining the Guidestones. He was saddened by the destruction of part of the monument.
“I’m not just sad for Elberton and Elbert County, I’m sad for the United States and the world,” Kubas said. “It was a tourist attraction, and it was not uncommon for people from all over the world to be here at any given time.”
According to him, the monuments had to be painstakingly crafted and the making of the stone blocks required immense effort.
“To extract an object of this size and get these four blocks with such precision…with the sandblasting necessary to etch these languages, it’s a work of craftsmanship that you won’t find anywhere else,” Kubas said. By Wednesday afternoon, the last Georgia Guidestones had been completely demolished.
What are the Georgia Guidestones?
The origin of this monument is ambiguous. It is said to have been commissioned by someone named RC Christian, established in 1980 and has become a roadside attraction for travellers. It is sometimes called the “Stonehenge of America” because of its unknown origins.
The monument is 19 feet tall and each block of stone weighs approximately 42,000 pounds. It serves as a calendar and carries a message in ten parts, in eight different languages. The messages are “guidelines” for humanity, which people have suggested as a “worship message”.
“They were intended for a future population after a cataclysmic event,” Mr Kubas said.
Elberton is colloquially known as “The Granite Capital of the World”. The stones were made from locally quarried granite and built by a company in the Elberton area.
