It was considered one of the most important elections in the recent history of Georgia and according to the official results the pro-Russian party remains in power Georgian Dreamnow at the top for 12 years.
The party founded by billionaire Bizina Ivanishvili won 54% of the votes but the electoral process is contested by the opposition. Even the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), although it does not disavow the count, speaks of elections subjected to strong pressure, intimidation and doubts about respect for the democratic process.
Is Georgia definitively moving away from the goal of joining the European Union? How predictable was this weekend’s vote and how long will the tug-of-war between government and opposition last? Did the war in Ukraine influence the Georgian vote? And how much have Russia and the EU done or attempted to do it, today in Georgia, a week ago in Moldova?
