Georgi Takhov hopes for a rapid increase in irrigated areas by 2.5 million decares, the goal is to increase to 8 million decares – 2024-10-23 11:36:00

The Ministry of Agriculture, the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy and “Irrigation Systems” EAD signed a memorandum of cooperation

The Minister of Agriculture Georgi Takhov hopes that the irrigated areas in the country will increase rapidly by 2.5 million decares, which will further reach 8 million decares. The goal would be fulfilled if the Finance Ministry satisfies the Ministry of Health’s request to secure BGN 1.2 billion. This is what he said today at the signing ceremony of memorandum for cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MZH), the University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy (UASG) and the state company “Irrigation Systems”.

The minister pointed out that the rehabilitation and expansion of the irrigation network is among the most important priorities in agrarian policies.

The rector of UASG Assoc. Dr. Arch. Gichka Kutova-Kamenova expressed her expectations that from now on students will have the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice. She said that the memorandum is very timely because the relationship between the practice and the business has not been well maintained over the years and that especially in the field of irrigation systems and hydromelioration there is much to catch up on. She stressed that she is open to specific actions to take as soon as possible, BTA quotes.

Minister Takhov stated that in addition to the talent of the students, it is also important to use the expertise of the teachers.

According to the executive director of “Irrigation Systems”, Snezhina Dineva, young and educated personnel are particularly important for the development of the company, and there is an increasing need for them. She recalled that they are already rehabilitating facilities that have not been repaired for 60 years. “We have the ambition to rehabilitate a large part, about 80 percent of the hydromelioration system. This requires effective modern irrigation and the development of hydromeliorations, which can only be provided by young prosperous personnel, such as the UASG emits,” Dineva said.

After the signing, Minister Takhov welcomed the graduates at a ceremony for the awarding of bachelor’s and master’s diplomas. He stated that graduates of UASG not only receive a prestigious education, but take on the responsibility of designing, building and upgrading the infrastructure of our country.
