Georgi Svilenski: Bloodshed Defending the Monument to the Soviet Army

The bandaged hand of the deputy head of the social group made him a hero for the left. Desislava Radeva’s ex-husband easily stirs up scandals on any topic, but his opponents also respect him

Since Tuesday, Georgi Svilenski is an even bigger hero in the eyes of the socialists. He shed blood defending the Monument to the Soviet Army.

The deputy head of the red group in the parliament fell victim to the BSP’s battle to keep him. Svilenski ended up in hospital with a cut hand after a metal fence was suddenly rammed by an employee of the district administration, injuring him.

The incident took place at noon on Tuesday, when Svilenski and his colleagues Ivan Chenchev and Hristo Prodanov tried to reach the monument and stop the dismantling of the figures. The three get into an argument over the metal fence with the deputy. the regional governor, Georgi Chichkov, who does not let them in. “While we were talking, an employee of his stepped up from several meters onto the fence, which landed on me and injured me, cutting my hand,” Svilensky later said. He filed a police report and threatened to sue the clerk.

After being tied up in ISUL, Svilenski returned to the parliament. The spilled blood did not help – the soldier with the “Shpagin” machine gun that evening rolled over, cut with a flex. But Svilensky attracted the attention of his own and others.

Social leader Kornelia Ninova, with whom she sits together in the first row of the plenary hall, immediately demonstrated her concern for her comrade. And this is no accident. He is an iron soldier of the party and is among the most loyal to Ninova. In addition to being her right hand in the parliament, she is something like the BSP’s swordsman – she shoots hard in all plenary debates.

He is a blade of verbal attacks, because he never cares and can directly say what he thinks or believes. But he also literally leads to a fight – his menacing standing up and willingness to get involved in any push around the stand can quickly send more than one of his colleagues from the other groups back to the banks.

He is able to cause a scandal on any topic, but his nagging is combined with a pleasant dose of humor, a quick mind and a quick tongue. For example, in his argument with Desislava Atanasova on TV about the immunity of Boyko Borisov. Or the calling from the microphone of the National Assembly of acting Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov, from whom he asked to return his salary for the 10 months in power.

The truth is that Svilenski enjoys a good name even among his political opponents, because they know that he can be talked to normally. He knows how to suppress his personal bias when there is a really important issue for the country or the people that requires consensus in the parliament. For years, for example, he has been one of the most active fighters against the gigits on the road. But when something is not right according to his understanding, nothing can shut his mouth.

It was Georgi Svilenski who lit the spark of the scandal between BSP and PP-DB about who bought the elections. He declared them “stolen”. “Your co-president and former prime minister said: ‘Withdraw the law and I will give you the codes.’ Who is he that will keep the codes of the machines in Bulgaria?”, the social deputy told “Promyanata” and DB in the late hours of the night from the parliamentary rostrum, while the Electoral Code was being debated. And he drew a threat of a lawsuit from Kiril Petkov.

Svilenski himself condemned the prosecution to pay him over BGN 20,000, after he was acquitted in one of the cases from the long-standing legal saga surrounding “Sofia Properties”. He was a member of the Board of Directors in the company during the years while he was still a municipal councilor in the capital.

After two terms in the municipality, the construction engineer entered the parliament in 2013 – during the time of Sergey Stanishev, but his star rose brightly three years later, when Ninova became the head of the party.

July 2022 Georgi Svilenski and Rumen Radev shake hands after the BSP returned the third mandate to form a government in the 47th National Assembly.

The fact that he is the first husband of the president’s wife, Desislava Radeva, got into the yellow media. They have a son who graduated in the USA, but returned to live in Bulgaria.

During these 7 years of “Dondukov” 2, Rumen Radev had to sit in front of the cameras against Svilensky twice. With icy smiles, the two shook hands in the summer of 2022 when the then BSP caucus chairman accepted and then returned the third mandate to form a government in the 47th National Assembly. However, Svilenski headed the group for only one incomplete term, while Ninova was deputy prime minister. Now he is her faithful combat deputy.
