/ world today news/ It is unlikely that the debates about who was the writer Georgi Markov, who did not flee from Bulgaria, nor was he chased, will ever subside. He left it legally with a six-month international passport provided to him by Todor Zhivkov – “for the boy to go to the West a little, to get some fresh air”.
It is an indisputable fact that every year he went to our embassy to renew his visa. And no one has either been him or kidnapped him. Months before he left and of his own volition not to return, Zhivkov ordered the heads of State Security to provide him with a special room where he could read top secret documents, the kind not even given to the member of the Central Committee of the BKP Bogomil Raynov. Markov told him that he was going to write a novel called Communists.
Markov’s first friend, years before he left, was Colonel Kostadin Kyulyumov, deputy head of the notorious Sixth Directorate of the DS. Markov moved almost every day in “general company”. Tartor was General Gospodin Gochev, head of the First Main Directorate of the DS – foreign intelligence, who had writing ambitions, Lieutenant General Grigor Markov, n.k. of the Second Main Directorate – counterintelligence and General Angel Solakov, Minister of Internal Affairs.
These are just facts.
Many people wonder if Georgi Markov was an agent of the DS.
This is what his best friend, Colonel Kylyumov, at the time he was the deputy head of the Sixth Directorate, says at the trial of the generals responsible for the destruction of Markov’s file.
To the judge’s question: was he an agent of the DS, Kyulyumov says:
– “It wasn’t, there was no need to be. He didn’t hide, he didn’t pretend. He shared with me everything that excited and irritated him. I have felt him as a like-minded person. We were such friends with him that I could share everything with him and ask him, and he could share everything with me and ask for it. HE WAS ONE OF US!”
It’s no secret that he was in Zhivkov’s tourist group, went on many trips around the mountains with him and wrote some of the best pages about Dad. Who wants to interpret these facts / These facts are from the memoir of Valentin Karamanchev, former member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Georgi Markov’s boss for five years as director of the publishing house “Narodna Vladje”./
