/ world today news/ Interview of Denitsa Gatsinska with Georgi Bozhinov, member of the National Council of the BSP
Denitsa Gacinska: Hello, Mr. Bozhinov! We are live on the air of “Radio K2”. What are the challenges to the left parties, to the left BSP and to its leadership? You will discuss such a round table today.
Georgi Bozhinov: The topic is extremely broad, very current, and it is difficult to summarize the answer in one. In my opinion, we need to separate the desirable, the possible, and accurately assess the actual as it is today. Because the world needs an actual left, a left to change this chaos that is currently in the world order. I don’t know how successful we will be with the reports, but if we don’t have the ability and sobriety to assess the current state of the left today in Bulgaria – none of what we will identify as trends and opportunities will be useful.
Denitsa Gacinska: Is the BSP leadership left-wing? There has been much criticism that there are more right-wing people than left-wing people in the leadership and the Executive Bureau of the BSP.
Georgi Bozhinov: I will refrain from a direct answer to this question. I am very moved by today’s interview on BTV of the number two person in the party who has demonstrated behavior that is unacceptable. He has shown that he is ready to erase the essence of left-wing politics, the dignity of left-wing politics, to replace it with falsehoods in order to find some justification for the behavior of the chairman. This is completely unacceptable to me. Look, he said that the BSP prepared the legislative foundations of RMD (worker-management companies – author’s note) privatization, and you see – the chairman only benefited from these legal norms, according to which he was realized. The truth is different. There is something in common between left and right RMD privatization and there is one difference. As the Prosecutor General says – “The devil is hidden in the details”. The devil is politics, I will tell you two details. The common thing between the left and right-wing RMD privatization is the following – the assets of the enterprises, of the companies could be acquired, notice, at 10, up to several hundred times lower price than their market price. Why? Because you could pay 10% of the book value, not of the market value, and take possession – one time 10. The second time you could reschedule for 10 years – the second time 10. Third – you could pay with compensatory notes, where 1 BGN was bought for 10 cents. What is the difference? The difference is that in the left-wing privatization, these preferences were used if at least 50% of the employees in the company participated and the managers had at least 2 years. When the right-wing came to power after a coup, the coup was the burning of the parliament on January 10, in the first month one number and one digit changed – the requirement for 50% of the company’s employees to be in the RMD and the requirement for 2 years to was the manager. This created an opportunity to single out a narrow circle of buyers and suppliers. The buyers are the right-wing elected officials, and the sellers are the representatives of state ownership in companies, i.e. ministers. This narrow circle of the newly appointed managers and God’s chosen 7, 8, 10, 15 employees in these companies enjoyed the preferences that were provided for hundreds of thousands of Bulgarian workers who worked hard to build Bulgaria. And Kiril Dobrev has many congratulations from me – to say that the privatization was carried out in the same way, no! The burning of the parliament happened because of this. There were many other reasons, but the right used the discontent of the people and caused this coup. That’s what I called him from the rostrum of the National Assembly. I can even say one more thing – I became an unwitting accomplice in this coup, but that is another topic, but the coup was carried out because it was expected that the distribution of the national wealth would not go one way or go the other way. The right could not come to terms with the scheme that the left had prepared and therefore staged a coup to make new rules and a very narrow circle of people to acquire the wealth. Here is a difference between the left and the right in action and in the current political life and the recent past of Bulgaria.
Denitsa Gacinska: The elected privatizers from the right – do you now rule the BSP and do you agree with one of the people’s representatives who stated that politicians of the transition who participated in the privatization or had something to do with it, should leave politics?
Georgi Bozhinov: You want me to answer all your questions. I will voice one more disagreement. Comrade Dobrev urged us to get used to the thought that we are the “B team” of the BSP. So, I do not accept being the “B team” of the BSP. If the leader of our team is a person from Ivan Kostov’s team – I prefer to be on the sidelines, but not to be in the first or second team of BSP.
Denitsa Gacinska: Thank you!
