It was confirmed in every way and in every tone by Georgetta Lali her intention to occupy this “orphaned” seat of Othona Iliopoulos in the Parliament, as long as all the previous runners-up refuse the upcoming invitation of the presidium on August 28.
In such a case, Stefanos Kasselakis will not be able to find himself in the seats of the Greek Parliament, acquiring together with all the rights that derive from the role of the president of the official opposition. Nor will he therefore be able to confront Kyriakos Mitsotakis face to face, as he ardently desires.
“As I stated last March, if the constitutional conditions are met, I intend to honor the trust of the voters in the State ballot in which I participated, from the seats of the Parliament”, said Mrs. Lali, who was the eighth consecutive candidate on the State ballot of SYRIZA, but now close to the New Left.
What will Tsapanidou and Kalogirou do?
Of course, she too will have to wait for what the previous four runners-up will do, especially Popi Tsapanidou and Michalis Kalogirou (who are “charged” to the Tsipras block). But after the public position of the legal and long-time executive of the European Commission, it is much easier for them to refuse the seat of the resigned Harvard professor, while “erasing” all the background that the former prime minister intervened to block the entry in the Parliament of his successor in the presidency of SYRIZA.
On the other hand, the other two runners-up (Jeni Livadarou, Thanasis Tsakris) are considered certain that they will not stand in the way, stepping aside.
The alternative version for Kasselakis
Whatever happens with the top four, Ms. Lalis’s stance ends any further discussion. Unless he intervenes another resignation of a deputy from the State (of the presidential environment always) with his simultaneous transfer to another post. A scenario that has not been ruled out at this stage.
Anyway, thanks to Georgeta Lali, St. Kasselakis does not have to wait. She even spoke of “a direct threat from Mr. Nikolaos Avlianos because I am not giving the seat to the president of SYRIZA”. As she argued in her statement, “he wrote it by name and with a photo on the online Avgi site last Tuesday and when I looked him up on FB he advertises his hunting skills, so he carries a gun,” referring to a comment a user made under a post. He even urged Avgi and SYRIZA “to be more careful in what they make public”.
SYRIZA replied that “there is no relevant article in Avgi. It never existed and nor could it exist”, pointing out that the specific report “is false”.
