George Russell Unfazed by Lewis Hamilton’s Move to Ferrari: Mercedes Boss Toto Wolff’s Phone Buzzing with Driver Inquiries

According to George Russell, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff’s phone has been ringing off the hook since it was announced that Lewis Hamilton will drive for Ferrari from next season. George Russell isn’t worried about his future teammate.

George Russell hopes that he will be challenged by the driver who will take a seat in the Mercedes from next year. The driver who will eventually fill Lewis Hamilton’s seat will follow in the footsteps of ‘the best driver of all time’ according to George Russell. “The coming months will be interesting,” says Russell F1.com. ”I have been teammates for the past two years with perhaps the best driver of all time, and I am not at all worried about who will be driving next to me from next year. I want to be challenged by the very best and that has worked well over the past two years. I don’t care if it’s an experienced driver or a younger driver.”

‘All kinds of drivers call Toto Wolff’

George Russell has noticed that Toto Wolff’s phone has been ringing off the hook since Lewis Hamilton announced that he will race for the Ferrari team next year. ”We have already had many conversations. I’ve been with Toto a lot this winter and it was quite funny to see the names of all kinds of drivers appear on his phone. I’ve had a few calls and messages myself.”

Next chapter

George Russell sees the departure of Lewis Hamilton as a new chapter for Mercedes. Although Russell does not care who takes Hamilton’s seat, he does hope that the dynamic between him and his future teammate will be good. ”I think it is important for every team to have good harmony between the drivers, because that is reflected in the engineers and the team. Ultimately, the decision lies with Toto and the board. I feel like I’m in a great position to help the team move forward. For the team it is a very good opportunity to enter this next chapter after so much success with Lewis and Mercedes.”
