George Lucas has known about Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game since 2009!

“I’ve been looking for ways to do this ever since,” Todd Howard admits.

Bethesda surprised everyone earlier this year by announcing a new Indiana Jones game. The large-scale project is led by MachineGames, the company responsible for the latest Wolfenstein, from whom, like Hollywood’s most famous archaeologist, it is no stranger to the abolition of the Nazis. Although this proposal came after a change of direction at LucasFilm Games, which also led to the announcement of a new open-world Star Wars with Ubisoft, the truth is that it is a project that has been underway for more than a decade. At least that’s what his producer, Todd Howard, says.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Bethesda’s creative director admits that the company had already offered an Indiana Jones game to George Lucas in 2009. Speaking about the future of the company and the games being made, Howard says he’s very excited about the opportunity to work with one of the most iconic characters in adventure movies. “I think I recommended the game to Lucas in 2009 and I’ve been looking for ways to do it ever since.”

“And with their work at MachineGames, they are exceptional developers and storytellers” Howard says. “When I started talking to them about the game, they seemed to fit together. Then we had the opportunity to talk to Lucas and Disney about it too, and they were very excited. I really love Indiana Jones, but I never thought I would have a chance to create a game.

“You will hear more about it in the future. But the MachineGames team is the best team in the world who can make this game and do a phenomenal job. ”

It was only announced in January 2021 and the development of the new Indiana Jones game is still at a very early stage, so it will still take some time for Indy to take his whip out for a walk.
