George Floyd’s grandniece (4) shot in bed | Abroad

According to her father, Derrick Delane, the girl was asleep in bed when the family’s apartment was shot multiple times on Jan. 1. A bullet struck Arianna and perforated her lungs and liver. She underwent emergency surgery and is currently out of danger.

“My daughter jumped up and said, ‘Daddy, I’ve been hit’. I was in shock. But then I saw the blood and realized that my 4-year-old daughter was really hit. She had no idea what was going on,” her father told ABC13.

The 4-year-old is George Floyd’s great-niece. He was killed in 2020 by ex-cop Derek Chauvin. The then police officer knelt on the handcuffed Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes during his arrest. A bystander filmed Floyd losing consciousness. The images sparked global outrage and sparked massive protests in the United States and elsewhere against police brutality and racism.

Except Arianna, no one else was injured. The Houston Police Department has launched an investigation into the shooting but said Tuesday they had no suspect or motive in mind.
