On September 28, 2023, the Clooney Foundation hosted the second annual Albie Awards at the New York Public Library. The gloomy weather did not prevent a shower of stars from meeting at the New York Public Library on September 28, 2023. In their most beautiful ceremonial outfits, all of Hollywood joined the Big Apple for the 2nd edition of the Albie Awards , organized by George and Amal Clooney through their “Justice Foundation”.
The event aims to highlight “courageous individuals who, at the risk of their lives, have dedicated their lives to justice”, says a communiquélike the South African judge Albie Sachs – hero of the end of Apartheid who gives his name to the prize – who received the Albie Award of Honor last year from Michelle Obama .

The awards are divided into five categories: justice for women, journalists, survivors of atrocities, for defenders of democracy and the Honorary Albie for “upholding justice”.

This new edition wanted to highlight the work of Doctor Denis Mukwege, founder of the Panzi hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo and who has helped more than 70,000 women victims of sexual violence. A fight that particularly affects George and Amal Clooney, one of the objectives of their foundation is “to help Yazidi women who were raped and enslaved by Daesh, to support survivors of atrocities committed in Congo and Sudan , and to fight discrimination and violence against women and girls around the world.
