On September 9, SP.A announced that the party would change its name to Vooruit. That is a nod to the Socialist past of the Ghent culture temple. Yet they continue to oppose the idea there. “For us, the point is that the messages we want to convey, often with a social vision, will contradict those of the political party,” adds Mieke Dumont. “The double use of the Vooruit name not only deprives the arts center of control over its own reputation, its autonomous voice in the public debate and its accessibility to a wide audience, it also weighs on relations with sponsors, governments, clients who rent halls and the hundreds of partners who contribute to our program every year ”.
The lettering is already hanging during the opening week of the cultural center. The management of Vooruit insists on consultation with SP.A on the matter.
