‘Gente’, Jaime Barrero’s bridge between art and sustainability

The artist and architect Jaime Barrero joined the environmental initiative of the Blue Clinic with the exhibition and art auction People, with which the recreation areas surrounding the institution and the care of the environment will be promoted.

The proposal, which was inaugurated at the beginning of this month, can be enjoyed in the main hall of the institution, located in the La Castellana neighborhood of Bogotá, next to a exhibition of sculptures in public areas.

The clinic also joined forces with the Blue Painted Hands Foundation, entity through which it seeks support the conservation of the green area of the El Virrey channel, adjacent to the institution that ends in the square of La Paz, an area ceded by the Blue Clinic of the Colombian Holding MedPlus, for the recreation and enjoyment of passers-by and residents of the area.

The artistic work in this collection deals with the “man in the city”, in the public space and makes a circumstantially relevant tribute in the situation of the covid-19, in which this collective heritage has been limited by forced confinements. The exhibition, from the artistic point of view, provides simple pieces of urban sculpture such as the group of passersby, the sculpture Twins, and the sculpture of collective creation of peace, in which several people linked to the group participated, accompanying the feeling of enhancing the public space of the clinic.

In short, the exhibition is an exercise in modern and contemporary art that contains 20 works in medium format, mostly two meters long by 70 centimeters high, with free technique, which represent all kinds of snapshots of citizens occupying the public space, in deliberately hinted, unfinished figures that give a sensation of movement, as corresponds to the capture the natural condition of unrest in the city, since this is dynamic, it never stops, and in the case of the works it is full of atmospheres that magically filter the figures of passersby.

“Art as a reflection of who we are, how we act, what we do, is a prism through which the world is looked at. In this way, the exhibition People It is a way of contributing to the community to make the world more beautiful today and also in the eyes of new generations ”, said Barrero.
