Gennaro Gattuso has a special Champions League clause in his contract with Olympique Marseille. The new coach of the French club confirmed this to the French press.

“We have to find the enthusiasm first,” Gattuso said at the press conference. “If we misplay a pass, I want us to get the ball back as quickly as possible, not shout at each other. It will be a bit stressful for the players, but we will help them.”
Gattuso’s aim is to finish in the top four of Ligue 1. “Europe is the key word. I have an option in my contract that has to do with Europe, so it is in my interest that we finish in the top four, otherwise I can pack my bags. We have to make sure the supporters are happy to come to the Vélodrome.”

Gattuso’s contract runs until the end of the current season. Should Olympique Marseille qualify for the preliminary rounds of the Champions League, his contract will be extended by two years.
