Kominfo Pariaman City — Pariaman Mayor Genius Umar launched the 2023 Crash Polio Immunization Program at the West Sumatra Province level which was held in Pariaman City, Monday (6/3).
Wako Genius umar who represented the Governor of West Sumatra Province said that the reason for us carrying out the launch of the Polio Immunization Crash Program was because an Extraordinary Event (KLB) of polio circulating Vaccine-Derived Polio Virus type 2 (VDPV2) had occurred in Pidie District, Aceh Province, Biruen.
“So that we, the provinces of West Sumatra and Riau, are the areas most prone to contracting, making a movement or launching the 2023 Polio Immunization Crash Program at the West Sumatra Province level,” said Genius Umar while giving directions on the Pariaman City Hall page.
For the City of Pariaman, said Genius Umar, he would carry out cross-OPD and cross-Forkopimda together in one week to carry out polio immunization for all children in Pariaman City starting today, March 6 to 13, 2023 in the future.
“Polio immunization is given to all children aged 0 to 59 months, including newcomers. There are 600 children who are targeted for polio immunization with the hope of reaching 95 percent,” he commented.
Furthermore, Genius also stated that the polio immunization rate in Pariaman City in 2022 was quite low at around 37 percent and in 2021 it reached 11 percent due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This year, we expect polio immunization to reach 95 percent because polio is very dangerous. If they don’t carry out polio immunization, it will cause these children to become permanently paralyzed like in Aceh Province, “he explained.
“Of course we don’t want this to happen in Pariaman City, so all parties, both Forkopimda, religion, education, health, village heads, are to support this polio immunization,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Head of the West Sumatra Provincial Health Office, Laila Yanwar, revealed that Pariaman City was chosen as the location for the 2023 West Sumatra Province level Polio Immunization Crash Program to be launched due to its success in dealing with health problems.
“Today, polio immunization has been announced in all districts/cities in West Sumatra Province. This is the result of cases in Aceh Province, but thank God, there have been no cases of polio in West Sumatra Province,” he said.
Laila Yanwar also mentioned that to protect our children from polio, children aged 0-59 months were immunized. For the Province of West Sumatra, 512,309 children must be immunized, with a coverage of 95 percent.
“For the next one week, polio immunization will be carried out which will start today, March 6 to 13, 2023,” he concluded. (rika)
