/ world today news/ For many years, the location of Genghis Khan’s grave has been the subject of expeditions and disputes of scientists and treasure hunters from different countries.
In Mongolia, it is believed that the grave of the great ancestor of the Mongols is located somewhere in the mountains north of Ulaanbaatar. According to one legend, he was buried in Burhan Khaldun mountain. In the 1990s, a number of American and Japanese expeditions headed there to find Genghis Khan’s tomb. They spend millions of dollars to find his burial, but their efforts are in vain. Chinese scientists insist that Genghis Khan’s grave should be located on Chinese territory, near the border between Mongolia and China, at the foot of the Altai Mountains. The main argument of the participants in the expedition is the fact that Genghis Khan’s road passed through this area several times during his campaigns against the Tangut Empire of Xi Xia. This country in the northern part of modern China fell under the attacks of his numerous army in 1227. During one of these campaigns, Genghis Khan died.
Genghis Khan’s grave should be sought in Tuva, because the historical homeland of the general is located on the territory where the Urianhais, that is, the ancient Tuvans, lived. This hypothesis was proposed by Tuva State University professor Nikolay Abaev. It is supported by other Russian scientists. The famous Russian specialist in the history of the Mongolian peoples, Elena Boykova, believes:
– The question of Genghis Khan’s grave should be related to the question of his homeland, where, by tradition, the grave should be located. Most Russian historians believe that the ancestors of Genghis Khan were born either in the territory of modern Tuva or in the northwestern part of Mongolia, near Lake Khubsugul, where ethnic Tuvans generally live. It all boils down to the fact that the historical homeland of Genghis Khan is located on the territory that was inhabited by the Tuvans in ancient times.
There is another fact confirming the hypothesis of Russian scientists about the burial of Genghis Khan. According to one of the legends, a thousand soldiers from the Uryanhit tribe guarded the area where the khan was buried. For this purpose, soldiers were even exempted from military service. The Mongols called the ancestors of the modern Tuvans “Uryankhites” or “Uryankhs”. After some time, the guard was removed, and the place of burial remained unknown. And this is not surprising, because, according to tradition, in order to protect Genghis Khan’s grave from treasure hunters, it was trampled and leveled to the ground by thousands of horses.
