In Geneva, the State Councilor Pierre Maudet is summoned Monday by the steering committee of his party to explain himself on strange messages exchanged about the financing of an evening and revealed by “Le Temps”. The president of the PLR Geneva says he is disappointed and angry with this new episode of the Maudet affair.
The steering committee convened Pierre Maudet and Simon Brandt, said Bertrand Reich on Tuesday, confirming information from RTS. Simon Brandt, municipal councilor of the City of Geneva, is the man with whom the messages were exchanged, according to “Le Temps” who obtained the minutes of a hearing of Pierre Maudet before the Public Ministry.
“It’s not acceptable”
In these messages, it is a question of modifying a report due to an excessive amount and to warn of “safe members” of the PLR. These two elements made Bertrand Reich jump, who wanted clarification. “It is not acceptable to modify PVs a posteriori and to say that there are sure or less sure members in the party”, noted Mr. Reich.
At this stage, the president of the party does not really understand the content of these messages exchanged in September 2018. “There seems to be a financial problem,” he noted. Monday’s session aims to hear the explanations of the two protagonists. Asked about a possible resignation request from Pierre Maudet, Bertrand Reich refused to prejudge the decisions of the Steering Committee.
Pierre Maudet is warned for acceptance of an advantage by the Geneva justice in connection with his trip to Abu Dhabi. The Geneva Public Prosecutor’s Office is also investigating financial support received from the Manotel hotel group. (ats / Le Matin)
